This is a plastic bag.... yet it forms part of our Earth Packaging range.
Our Insulated Bag is the only insulated bag endorsed by the UK Recycling Association.
AND WE CAN PROVE IT...
Our Insulated Bags have actually been sent, tested and recycled by an independent waste management company: Kam Plastics.
JUST ONE PLASTIC USED
All components, including handle, film and insulation foam, are all made out of just one type of plastic – Polyethylene. Insulated Woven PP Bags that are often seen in the retail landscape are made out of mixed plastic and often feature PP/PE/PET components. These bags cannot be recycled at the end of their life - ours can.
LESS ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
According to the Welsh Assembly Government, The Environment Agency completed a study into the environmental impacts of types of carrier bags. The study concluded that for a paper bag to have the same impact on the environment as a plastic bag it would need to be used at least 4 times; however, most paper bags would unfortunately not be durable enough to be used 4 times.
IT’S GOT A LONG LIFE
A plastic bag can carry 2,500 times its own weight and stay strong when wet, which is essential when condensation occurs by carrying hot or cold food items. The bags can also be re-used many times over for shopping. They are also put to many other uses in the home. Reusable plastic bags are more sustainable than all types of lightweight plastic carrier bags if used four times or more.
LESS ENERGY USED, LESS POLLUTANTS
It takes more than four times as much energy to manufacture a paper bag as it does to manufacture a plastic bag. The majority of paper bags are made by heating wood chips under pressure at high temperatures in a chemical solution. The use of these toxic chemicals contributes to both air pollution, such as acid rain, and water pollution. These chemicals can pollute waterways; the toxicity of the chemicals is long-term and settles into the sediments, working its way through the food chain. Further toxicity is generated as both plastic and paper bags degrade. Paper bags generate 70% more air and 50 times more water pollutants than plastic bags.
USE SEA-SHELL ALTERNATIVES
Where possible we have substituted virgin Polyethylene with recycled materials and
waste sea shell alternative to further reduce the impact on the environment without detrimental effects to the recycling process or the product.
IT’S EASILY RECYCLABLE!...
After its long life our Insulated Bags can be simply taken back to supermarkets who offer recycling banks instore. Polyethylene bags can be recycled into many different products or can be turned into small pellets, or post consumer resin, which can become a variety of products such as new bags, pallets, containers, crates, and pipes.
Earth Packaging is a range of products and packaging solutions from Sirane which are sustainable, compostable and/or easily recyclable. These bags are the latter, they are easily recyclable!
